Is your mind noisy right now?
Is your inner critic bossing you around?
Try this one trick I like to call “Hey Critic”.
First, identify the reason your critic is causing you inner pain.
It could be for example: Anxiety, Guilt, Fear, Shame, etc.
Using an emotion wheel could be useful.
Second, find a quiet space and focus on the this part intently.
Third, repeat this sentence.
“Hey Critic, I really appreciate your concern about me doing [inner pain reason] right now, I’ll definitely take your request into consideration, but for now, can I just ask you for 5 mins of space?”
It may look something like this:
“Hey Critic, I really appreciate your concern about me doing the dishes right now, I’ll definitely take your request into consideration, but for now, can I just ask you for 5 mins of space?“
Asking for space from your critic often offers a silent moment, and challenges your automatic thought process.
It takes a lot of practice, but eventually, you will be ask your inner critic for some space.
